Christmas Savings Club

  • At your request, your money or select amounts you specify are sent from your direct deposit to your accounts at Life Credit Union. Payroll deduction can also be used for repayment of loans and deposits to money market accounts and investments.

  • Vacation Savings account holders have two withdrawals available anytime from January through December in the calendar year, so you can plan your vacation for whenever you want it. For additional withdrawals, charges will apply.

  • Yes. The minimum balance is $10.

IRAs

  • Yes. The minimum opening balance is $100.

  • For a Roth IRA, you will pay taxes upfront, but won’t have to pay any taxes on the money when you withdraw it in retirement. A Traditional IRA will reduce your initial tax burden, since you can deposit the money without paying taxes on it, but you will pay taxes on your distributions in retirement. Line of Credit

  • Collateral is something you pledge as security for repayment of a loan, such as your car or home.

  • Both of these loans are available without collateral. A signature loan is offered as a lump sum, whereas a line of credit is a source of funds that you can draw from whenever you choose. With a line of credit, the money that is repaid becomes available again. There are advantages to both, depending upon your needs and circumstances. A signature loans gives you more cash up front, whereas a line of credit is more flexible.

PrePaid Cards

  • Not at this time. Due to a significant increase of fraudulent transactions originating from car rental businesses, these type of debit card transactions will no longer be accepted.

    For car rentals, we recommend using a Life CU VISA® credit card, which is easy to apply for and offers rewards. Apply now!

    You may also contact your local car rental company in advance to see if they will accept a PrePaid VISA® card, which is also available at Life CU.

  • The cost is $5 per card.

  • Yes. Contact us to receive a replacement pre-paid card with a corresponding balance.

Recreational Loans

Scholarship

  • Yes, the applicant must have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grade scale.

  • These are the current requirements:

    • Applicant is a member or dependent child of a member of Life CU. (A dependent child is defined as a naturally born/legally adopted child, a stepchild and/or a legal ward supported principally by the parent or guardian).
    • *Life CU Board of Directors, Supervisory Committee, Scholarship Committee Members, employees, and dependents of those listed, are not eligible to participate.
    • Applicant must be a high school senior planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational/technical institute.
    • Applicant must have earned a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 grade scale.

  • On the scholarship application, you must include:

    • A description of your extracurricular activities. Please include clubs, athletics, religious organizations, and community-related activities. Identify positions of leadership held with each activity, if applicable. You may attach an extra sheet if you need more space.
    • At least one letter of reference.
    • A signature by a school counselor/principal certifying the grade point average. (Not required this year 2020)
    • An official transcript of your grades.  (If a final transcript is not available by the scholarship deadline, the
      most recent available transcript is acceptable.)
    • An essay (minimum 250 words) which names a person you admire, and explains why you admire them.
  • Yes. We provide Student Loans in partnership with Sallie Mae.

    Sallie Mae also offers access to their scholarship search tool, which includes over 3 million scholarship opportunities!

Signature Loan

Student Loan

  • A variable interest rate means that the rate will change as market interest rates change. As a result, your payment amounts will vary as well.

    A fixed interest rate means the rate will remain fixed for that loan’s entire term, no matter what market interest rates do. This also means your payments will be the same over the entire term.

  • An origination fee is charged by a lender upon entering into a loan agreement to cover the cost of processing the loan. The Sallie Mae program does not charge origination fees for student loans.

  • Yes. In fact, if a parent or other creditworthy individual cosigns the loan with you, it may give you a better chance of approval.

  • No. In fact, we encourage you to explore other funding options first, and then use a student loan to pay the rest, if needed. Be sure to search out scholarship opportunities and grants, since you won’t ever need to repay those. To get started, we recommend exploring Sallie Mae’s college planning section. We also encourage you to apply for Life CU’s own scholarship.

    • Data downloadable to financial software such as Quicken or Money
